Day One

It's hot. Like, really hot. As it turns out, I came on a very special day. A day that everyone else had been anticipating for months, because it kept getting delayed. The long awaited veterinarian had finally arrived to sterilze and take blood/measurements of all 15 adult lions. My first day on the project was spent darting lions and carrying them around the compound. I also have met all of my co-volunteers. It turns out, I was incorrectly informed; there are 8 of us all together. Unfortunately for me the one that I liked best as of my single day here, is leaving tomorrow. But! Another also arrives tomorrow! Perhaps the new one will be just as enjoyable. Aside from the lions and other volunteers, I was also introduced to all the other animals on the compound. Two juvenile male lions, a cheetah kitten, two adult caracals and a baby who's 7 months old. Two monkeys, two jackals, and and a family of big eared african foxes. I should have pictures of at least most of them soon.
